Paper Planes

Late notice, but tomorrow night (February 24th) is my friend/fellow-artist Gina Siciliano’s book release party for her graphic-novella Summertime, an 88-page odyssey of “Sex and Violence, Punk and Love, Self-Destruction and Survival.” The party is at Left Bank Books in Seattle’s historic Pike Place Market at 7 PM. There will be snacks, drinks, and a discussion. Interested parties who can’t make the signing can still snag a copy of the book at the University District Comic Stop.

Myself and artist super-friend Billis Helg will be sharing a table this weekend at Seattle’s first-ever Short Run festival of local, small-press publications. The event will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2011 from 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM at the Vera Project. I’ll be selling some reprints of my comics and minis, and Billis and I have plans to unveil a collaboration we’ve been working on. Also, fellow artist-compatriots the Bureau of Drawers will be at the table next to us, so you’ll have a chance to see/buy some of the cool goods they’re selling. Stop by if you can!

Also in upcoming events: I will be a guest stunt drawer along with comics super-friend Billis Helg at the next Landlord’s Daughter concert. The event poster (above) features some of my artwork with design by Landlord’s Daughter frontman Sean Michael Robinson. The concert is Friday night (October 28th) at Cafe Racer in the University District, so stop by if you’re in the neighborhood. I will draw you something nice while you listen.

There’s a Landlord’s Daughter/Old Bottle Black concert coming up on April 23rd at Cafe Racer in the University District. Fellow artist/friend Kaia Chessen and I will be accompanying the music with live stunt drawing for the evening. Pictures start at 8 and sound at 9 - hope to see you there!

Item of note: Tomorrow night I’ll be at Cafe Racer doing live stunt drawing along with fellow artist and friend Billis Helg as part of the Landlord’s Daughter concert at 9:00 PM. Regulars may recognize Landlord’s Daughter as the band of our mutual friend Sean Michael Robinson. You might also recall the album art I did for them about a year ago. Stop by Racer on Friday if you can; it’ll be the Bee’s Knees.

A few items of note:

First, Mr. Danno Klonowski has featured the pinup I made for his series Manly Tales of Cowardice on his website along with some very kind words. Attentive readers may recall that Danno was the featured artist of this year’s Lutefisk Sushi show. He’s also made a wry and deservedly biting nod to my character Tanhauser Dentz, who attentive readers will will not recall since I haven’t made it around to reprinting his adventure yet. (He was a character in my 2008 24 Hour Comic two three years ago)

Second item: I’ve discovered that some of the images posted on this blog appear better when viewed in Safari instead of Firefox, or at least they appear closer to the original files in Photoshop. You own aesthetic pleasure may vary based on personal taste.

Finally, I’ve decided that we live in world where little children no longer see any romance in lighthouses. I never did myself, but seeing this cynicism in children is just heartbreaking. Maybe they’ll grow out of it.
