Late notice, but tomorrow night (February 24th) is my friend/fellow-artist Gina Siciliano’s book release party for her graphic-novella Summertime, an 88-page odyssey of “Sex and Violence, Punk and Love, Self-Destruction and Survival.” The party is at Left Bank Books in Seattle’s historic Pike Place Market at 7 PM. There will be snacks, drinks, and a discussion. Interested parties who can’t make the signing can still snag a copy of the book at the University District Comic Stop.

Myself and artist super-friend Billis Helg will be sharing a table this weekend at Seattle’s first-ever Short Run festival of local, small-press publications. The event will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2011 from 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM at the Vera Project. I’ll be selling some reprints of my comics and minis, and Billis and I have plans to unveil a collaboration we’ve been working on. Also, fellow artist-compatriots the Bureau of Drawers will be at the table next to us, so you’ll have a chance to see/buy some of the cool goods they’re selling. Stop by if you can!

Also in upcoming events: I will be a guest stunt drawer along with comics super-friend Billis Helg at the next Landlord’s Daughter concert. The event poster (above) features some of my artwork with design by Landlord’s Daughter frontman Sean Michael Robinson. The concert is Friday night (October 28th) at Cafe Racer in the University District, so stop by if you’re in the neighborhood. I will draw you something nice while you listen.

“The end has begun. Oliver’s classmates are getting their demons, and soon, Oliver will be summoned to Nexia, to meet Illisius and fulfill his terrible prophecy. And even worse, Emalie hasn’t returned. Can Oliver and Dean find her, and thwart Oliver’s fate before it’s too late? Their only hope lies in solving the baffling mystery of the Triad of Finity. In this harrowing finale to the series, battle lines are drawn, unsteady alliances formed, and Oliver and his friends face their destiny.”
I’ve just completed work on a cover for the finale of Kevin Emerson’s Oliver Nocturne series. The book should be debuting this month sometime, and you can find out more on the author’s website here. You can also view the entire wrap-around cover here.

Figure Study, No. 4. acrylic ink, colored pencil. 15 x 22”. 2011.
Item of note: Tomorrow night I’ll be at Cafe Racer doing live stunt drawing along with fellow artist and friend Billis Helg as part of the Landlord’s Daughter concert at 9:00 PM. Regulars may recognize Landlord’s Daughter as the band of our mutual friend Sean Michael Robinson. You might also recall the album art I did for them about a year ago. Stop by Racer on Friday if you can; it’ll be the Bee’s Knees.

A few items of note:First, Mr. Danno Klonowski has featured the pinup I made for his series Manly Tales of Cowardice on his website along with some very kind words. Attentive readers may recall that Danno was the featured artist of this year’s Lutefisk Sushi show. He’s also made a wry and deservedly biting nod to my character Tanhauser Dentz, who attentive readers will will not recall since I haven’t made it around to reprinting his adventure yet. (He was a character in my 2008 24 Hour Comic two three years ago)
Second item: I’ve discovered that some of the images posted on this blog appear better when viewed in Safari instead of Firefox, or at least they appear closer to the original files in Photoshop. You own aesthetic pleasure may vary based on personal taste.
Finally, I’ve decided that we live in world where little children no longer see any romance in lighthouses. I never did myself, but seeing this cynicism in children is just heartbreaking. Maybe they’ll grow out of it.

Combo: Original Artwork by the Bureau of Drawers

Friday, September 10th, 2010 is a big day because it marks the Bureau of Drawers’ first-ever gallery show! The event is being held at UrbanLight Studios in Greenwood, and festivities will commence at 6PM. We’ll be showing original artwork, doing live drawing, and (to make the occasion extra-special) debuting our brand-new anthology: Combo #1.

What is Combo #1? Combo #1 is sixteen original minicomics by Bureau members all lovingly stowed in a limited edition, silk-screened catering box and made available for purchase. The whole thing should be a lovely objet d’art, and there will be only about forty available for purchase - meticulous collectors take note! Anyway, I’ll definitely be in attendance on Friday, and you ought to stop by and say hello! Here are the show details:

So I guess you’re wondering, “Carl, did you do a minicomic for Combo?” And the answer is: oh, yes. I’ll have it posted here after Combo’s debut, but here’s a peek from my folding session:
